For over 40 years, Spanjer Homes has been a small to medium-sized construction company, building in the finest Northern Colorado communities. Spanjer Construction Corporation was started by Steve Spanjer in July of 1978. Doing remodels, carpentry work, and an occasional spec home, the company built a reputation for its distinctive interior trim work and its furniture-quality woodworking details. At one point, Spanjer Construction employed seventeen specialty trim carpenters. This reputation for distinctive craftsmanship set Spanjer Construction's custom homes apart, creating homes specifically tailored for the owner. In the early 90s, the firm diversified into multi-family projects with the 82-unit Summerhill project. By the early 2000s, Spanjer Homes had successfully entitled, built and sold more than 200 multi-family units.
In 2003, Spanjer Construction adopted a trade name, Spanjer Homes, to more accurately describe the company’s primary focus. It was also at that time that Spanjer Construction’s land division, which purchases and develops small infill communities, acquired and improved the acreage across from Bennett Elementary in central Fort Collins. The Bennett Road Bungalows, a custom community of 16 homes, were created and built there to showcase the architectural details, colors, and character of the early 1900’s prairie or bungalow style. Spanjer Homes has earned recognition for several specialty residential concepts in addition to the Bennett Road Bungalows: Myrtle Court Townhomes, an infill redevelopment in the historic Eastside Park neighborhood of Fort Collins; the Sunstone Ranches, an infill project featuring ADA-accessible homes for active adults; and Prospect Station, a mixed-use development under review, designed to complement Fort Collins’ award-winning Mason Corridor Plan.
To date, Spanjer Homes continues to be known for its one-of-a-kind custom homes, its attention to fine woodworking, and for the value that comes with owning a Spanjer-built home.
The character and culture of Spanjer Homes has its roots in the love for creating fine homes in our community, the people we work with, and in the constant drive to improve what we are doing and how we are doing it.
The foundation of our company remains solid as a result of wonderful clients, devoted employees, loyal tradesmen, constant communication, and hard work. Building homes is exciting, but building what our homeowners really want is extremely rewarding. We'd like Spanjer Homes to be remembered for establishing honest and long-lasting relationships, as well as for providing a good value and building distinctive homes that stand the test of time.
