The Madison Chamber of Commerce has put together a brochure and map that accompanies a 1.4 self-guided walking tour of the most significant historical and architectural structure in the historic district. From our hotel, the James Madison Inn, we headed east to the our first stop on the tour, the Morgan County Courthouse.
Several taverns were located along an early stagecoach route from Charleston to New Orleans, one of which is the Stagecoach House, currently located on Old Post Road. Built in 1810, this house is one of the oldest structures in Madison and a great example of Greek Revival architecture.
